Srinagar: At least 27 families were Friday shifted to safer places in Kupwara district after the residents feared landslides due to rainy weather prevailing in the Valley from the last three days.
The administration has shifted fifteen families in Amroohi, Karnah to a government schools for their safety.
SDM Karnah, Shabir-ul-Hassan told KNS that the families were shifted to the safer places after they feared landslides due to incessant rains since last three days.
He said that the hilly land at which these families were living began to slide and soon after it came to fore, the families were immediately shifted to the safer places.
All the major roads including TangdarhKupwara was closed while a major bridge in the area connecting the village with rest of the part was washed away as the water level in the Qazinag Nallah increased due to the continuous downpour from the past three days.
Twelve families have been shifted to safety in hilly Kalaroos area in the district after the residents to safer places.
As per KNS correspondent, the police and local administration have shifted to safety 12 families in Chowhan Mohalla in Mori Kalaroose.
Local police officials told KNS that the hilly land at which these families were living began to slid and they immediately shifted the families to safer places. (KNS)
Two houses damaged due to landslides in Rajouri
Rajouri: Two houses were Friday damaged due to landslides, triggered by heavy rains in Kevil village of Rajouri district. However, the family members escaped unhurt and were shifted to safer place.
According to KNS correspondent, the owners of two houses which got damaged in the wee hours of Friday morning were identified as Javid Iqbal, son of Muhammadah and Aziz-ud-din, son of Lassa.
The 14 members of two families who were evacuated by the police were shifted to safer places by the authorities, official said. Heavy rains form past three consecutive days triggered landslides and shooting stones in the district. (KNS)
