Handicraft awareness camp held in Bandipora

BANDIPORA: An awareness camp cum exhibition was organized by the department of Handicrafts here today at Town Hall Bandipora whereat a large number of artisans and carpet weavers participated.

Among others Assistant Director Handicrafts and Handicraft training officers Bandipora besides district manager SICOP were also present at the awareness camp.

During the workshop it was informed that as many as 8603 artisans have been registered with the Handicrafts department in Bandipora   of which 6375 artisans were imparted training in carpet weaving, gabba carpets, embroidery, wood carving, staple and chain stitching during the last 8 years.

Accordingly an interest subsidy of Rs 23.69 lakh has been released in favour of the artisans during the current financial year, while efforts are on to clear the backlog.

The officers of Handicraft department apprised the participants about the schemes being run for their welfare and made them aware about the training programme, corporatization, availability of design faculty from school of designÂ’s Srinagar, benefits of micro credit scheme having 10 percent interest subsidy available for 5 years from the date of disbursement.

It was also given out that 3575 cases of artisans were sponsored to different banks for grant of financial assistance under Handicraft Micro Enterprise scheme and Artisan Credit Card scheme   of which 2611 beneficiaries have been provided   loan facility during the past 6 years in the district.

During the camp participating artisans were asked to register themselves with the department so that they too can avail benefits to improve their living conditions.
