Farmers imparted training on Fish Culture

 UDHAMPUR:- Department of Fisheries organised one day Fish Farmers Training Programme on ‘Scientific methods of Fish Culture’ in Block Tikri, Ramnagar, Majalta, Udhampur and Chanunta under State Support to Extension Reforms (ATMA) 2015-16.      

A batch of 20-25 farmers participated in each training programme and a total of 120 farmers were imparted training under the Scheme.

During the programme, farmers were made aware about the innovative techniques for enhancing fish production. The main purpose of the training was to popularize scientific method of fish farming as this sector can generate lot of opportunities for uplifting the rural economy besides providing high quality protein to masses.

 Experts imparted training on site selection, pond preparation, farm management, fish diseases, integrated fish farming etc. The farmers were also given literature/handouts on fish culture techniques. The farmers were advised to adopt integrated method of fish farming like Dairy cum Fish culture, Poultry cum Fish culture, Floriculture and vegetable crops on the pond embankments for increasing productivity viz a viz  their income from their land holding. The fish culture in integration with other agriculture systems has the potential to enhance the farm output and economic efficiency as district Udhampur has potential for both Carp and Trout culture.

The queries raised by the farmers were responded by the experts they were also made aware about various schemes of the department. The practical session comprised of water quality management, fish identification, fish seed transport methods etc.
