DC Srinagar launches plantation drive

SRINAGAR: The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, today launched a plantation drive organized by Social Forestry Department (SFD) at S P College here.

According to the Divisional Forest Officer, SFD with the advent of spring in Kashmir the department has launched a massive plantation drive in the valley. In this connection various degraded forest areas, community waste lands, road side verges and open spaces in various government-cum-private institutions are being planted with ornamental, avenue plants and conifers.

Besides the plantation drive, awareness camps are being organized by the department in various schools to make students aware about the importance of plantation to protect the environment. The department has said that the plantation drive will continue throughout the month.

Others who were also present during the plantation drive at the S.P College include Regional Director SFD Kashmir, Principal S.P College, Divisional Forest Officer SFD Srinagar and Chairman NSWRWLF.
