GANDERBAL: In an endeavour to promote the Kashmir Handicrafts and to bring awareness among the people regarding the handicrafts of Kashmir, the Department of Handicrafts today organized awareness cum sale camp at Physical Education College Ganderbal. The camp was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal, Showkat Aijaz Bhat.
At the camp, as many as 10 stalls were established by the department wherein the Handicraft products including the finest handicrafts of Kashmir ranging from dress material; chain Stitch items, wood carving, Crewel, Sozni, Paper Mache items, Kashmiri Shawls, table mats, cushion covers, Wicker Willow products, Carpets and much more were on display.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC appreciated the efforts of the department in organizing such exhibition which besides promoting traditional handicrafts also facilitates direct contact between the buyer and the seller. He also directed the authorities to organize such exhibitions in future at different places so that the artisans and craftsmen would get marketing platform to sell their products.
Assistant Director Handicrafts, Ganderbal, Afroza Akhtar while presenting the vote of thanks highlighted the role of Handicrafts Department in upgrading living standards of Artisans and also reducing their exploitation by middle men.
Among others ACR Ganderbal, General Manager DIC Ganderbal and District Panchayat Officer Ganderbal were present on the occasion.
