BEIJING: China’s foreign ministry on Monday countered reports about incursion by Chinese troops at the Ladakh border on March 8-11, and about the marshalling of Chinese forces on the Pakistan side.
“There is no such thing as going beyond the border,” ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said. He was apparently taking advantage of an old argument that since the border has not demarcated, there can be no evidence of an incursion.
Lu said he had no knowledge about reports that Chinese troops are seen in Pakistan adminstered Kashmir, an area which is claimed by India.
“I have not heard about the incident you mentioned,” the spokesman said before shifting the topic to India-Pakistan relations.
“China’s position on the Kashmir issue is consistent. The relevant issue is left over from history between India and Pakistan. We hope the two countries can properly resolve the issue through negotiation and consultations,” he said.
It is China’s stated policy that it would never send forces to another country except under the banner of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.
