10-day Kashmir Theatre Festival begins at Tagore Hall

SRINAGAR: Ten-day Kashmir Theatre Festival-2016, organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages took off here on Monday evening.

 During the festival, as many as 10 plays will be staged  at Tagore Hall which are mostly from Academy’s own annual drama festival. The festival began with the play ‘Blood and Beauty’ written by prominent theatre person and playwright, Kumar A. Bharti and directed by Abhishek Bharti.

On the inaugural day, a large gathering of audience including theatre persons witnessed the play and appreciated the performers.

Declaring the festival open, Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Dr Aziz Hajini said that the Academy was committed to the promotion of theatre in the State and the current festival was a significant step towards this direction.

Prominent artiste, Prana Shingloo inaugurated the event.

Among those present on the occasion included GR Sufi, former State Chief Information Commissioner, Director School Education Kashmir, Dr. Shah Faisal, Convener Kashmiri Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, Mohammed Zaman Azurda, writer BN Betab, and former Director Doordarshan Dr. Rafiq Masoodi.

Playwright and dramatist, Bhawani Bashir Yasir, and theaterist, Ghulam Ahmad Bhat attended the event as guest of honour.
