SRINAGAR: The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Friday inaugurated Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) WiFi hotspot facility at the Srinagar International Airport.
The inaugural function was also attended by GM BSNL Muhammad SaleemBeig, Director Srinagar Airport RN Shinde, SSP Anti High-Jacking Manzoor Ahmad Dalal and senior officials of BSNL and Airport Authority.
Dr. Samoon, who was the chief guest, on the occasion, lauded BSNL for starting the service at the airport, which he said will benefit hundredsof passengers to remain connected during their brief stay at the airport to board the flights or wait for their luggage.
He said in todays world of information technology net connectivity is not a luxury, but a necessity. The Div Com stressed the need for up-gradation of more facilities at the airport like night landing. He also called for introducing concessions in air fares, particularly during peak tourist season.
While briefing the Divisional Commissioner about the BSNL WiFi hotspot facility, GM BSNL said the passengers can avail free 4G equivalent WiFi hotspot facility for first 15 minutes at the airport and then can opt for paid options as per the minutes required.
On the occasion Dr. Samoon asked the BSNL authorities to introduce similar facility at hospitals and other public places to benefit locals as well as tourists.
BSNL officials informed the DivCom that the telecom company is also planning to launch free WiFi hotspot facility at about 100 places including Lal Chowk, Press Enclave, SKIMS and Boulevard road along the banks of Dal Lake in coming months.
