Army recovers, destroys IED at Lasjan bypass

Share

Srinagar: Army Friday recovered a pressure cooker based IED planted along the Srinagar- Baramulla National Highway.

In a statement issued to KNS, Army said that the vigilant Army troops during a routine road opening procedure, detected a suspicious object astride the Srinagar- Baramulla National Highway approximately 2 Km from the Lasjan Bridge in the morning hours.

The area was cordoned immediately on either side of the road and traffic was stopped to avoid threat to the civilian lives. The IED was recovered and destroyed in situ by the Bomb Disposal team of Army while the traffic was resumed soon.

“The quantity of explosives used on such a busy stretch of an important road could have resulted in serious damage. A major tragedy has thus been averted by thwarting the nefarious designs of militants who intended to spread terror by threatening lives of innocent people,” Army spokesman said. (KNS)
