DDC Srinagar tours city, inspects developmental projects

SRINAGAR: The District Development Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone today visited various areas of Srinagar city to inspect the progress of developmental projects.

The DDC was accompanied by Joint Director Planning Javaid Iqbal, Sub Divisional Magistrate Srinagar Syed Mohammad Haneef Balkhi and other concerned officers.

Dr Lone visited the Gousia Hospital Khanyar and inspected various sections of the hospital, where he interacted with the patients and attendants and enquired about the facilities being provided to patients.

He also held a detailed review of the functioning of the hospital with the medical superintendent and other authorities who informed the DDC that the hospital caters to 400-450 patients daily and there was a pressing need to upgrade space and parking facilities. The DDC inspected the heating plant at the hospital and directed PDD officials to install generator within 10 days to sort out the electricity issues at the hospital for its better functioning.  

During the day-long tour the DDC visited Khawaja Naqashband Sahib (RA), Radpora stadium, Gani Memorial stadium and Badamwari sports ground in old city of Srinagar.

While inspecting the leveling and other construction works at the Radpora stadium, he directed the concerned executing agencies to complete the work on turf, construction of pavilion and drainage & sewerage system in and around the stadium.

The DDC later visited Gani Memorial stadium where he directed the concerned officials to speed up the work on fencing, drainage, volleyball court and construction of scoreboard. He asked PDD officials to restore lighting facility at the stadium. He also called upon executing agencies for early completion of Badamwari sports ground.

Dr Lone also visited the site for construction of Psychiatric Disease Hospital at Badamwari which is being constructed by JKPCC under National Mental Health Programme. He directed the concerned officials to send the progress report of the construction work to him on a monthly basis.

During his tour, the District Development Commissioner inspected the ongoing construction work of multi-storey marriage hall at Soura and directed the Housing Board officials to build wall around the hall.

Later, he visited Government Girls Higher Secondary School Soura and inspected the construction of Basketball court there. The officials of Youth Service and Sports informed the DDC snap-sports tiles are being imported for the court which is an interlocking modular surface for both amateur and professional level play.

Later, the DDC visited Eidgah prayer ground and park where tourism and other concerned officials briefed the DDC that at the prayer ground, land has been demarcated to prevent it from any encroachment and the fencing work is going on at full pace besides Minbar will be shifted to accommodate more land for the prayer ground.

The DDC directed the concerned officials to complete the filling of stinky marshy land and build proper drainage system at the prayer ground. He also directed for beautification of the Eidgah Park and restoration of the lights there.  

During the inspection of the developmental works Dr Lone stressed the need for synchronization and better coordination among concerned departments and executing agencies so that these projects are completed at an earliest and their benefits percolate to the people.
