ANANTNAG: To acquaint farmers with latest tools and technology to increase production and quality production, a Kissan Mela cum district level exhibition of modern machinery was today held at Dak Banglow Khanabal.
The Kissan Mela was organized by Department of Agriculture in collaboration with allied departments including Fisheries, sericulture, Sheep husbandry, Animal husbandry, Mushroom development department, soil conservation and apiculture development departments.
District Development Commissioner, Anantnag Mr. Muneer-ul-Islam who was chief guest on this occasion visited different stalls installed by Agriculture & other allied departments depicting the high yield hybrid seed varieties and latest machinery to be utilized for various farming related activities.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC urged upon the farmers to utilize the latest available tools and techniques besides high yielding crop varieties to acquire maximum agriculture produce. He also highlighted the aim of holding Kissan awareness camps and urged the participants to utilize these occasions for acquainting themselves with the latest inventions and discoveries in agriculture sector like all intensive organic farming, monoculture and high production backyard farming.
DDC stressed upon the educated unemployed youth to take keen interest in such awareness programmes so that they can establish their own income generating units for which agriculture and allied departments have come up with a number of schemes especially in sectors like Poultry, Apiculture and Horticulture.
The DDC urged upon the farmers not to change the fate of the agriculture land by constructing shopping complexes, residential houses or brick kilns.
He said that farmers should come forward and avail the benefits of various centrally and state sponsored schemes.
At the conclusion, the DDC distributed soil health cards among the progressive farmers and insisted upon the agriculture department to organize such camps in other parts of the district as well.
It was also informed during the camp that 3000 soil health cards will be distributed among the progressive farmers of the district in the current season.
Awareness camp was also attended by joint Director Agriculture Kashmir Mr. Gh. Hassan, Chief Agriculture Officer Anantnag, All Sub-Divisional Officers of Agriculture and other allied departments.
