Dozens of shops gutted in fire in Goni Khan Market

Srinagar: Dozens of shops in the intervening night of Thursday-Friday got damaged after a massive fire engulfed in the commercial area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

Reports said that the fire broke out in shopping complex in Goni market at business hub Lal chowk. The complex houses dozens of shops, godowns stocked with several essential goods including readymade garments, crockery and others. 

Reports aid that the massive fire broke out from a local hotel and soon spread to the other structures dozens of other shops housed in the complex.

“As soon as the fire engulfed in the area, several fire engines were pressed into services and the fire was controlled after more than two hours,” a local told KNS. 

All the shops were shuttered down while the area was cordoned off by the shopkeepers who were clearing the debris and rubble of the gutted structures. 

However, the cause of fire was not ascertained till the report was filed. “Investigation is going on in this regard. The cause will be ascertained soon,” a top police official told KNS.

He also said that no injury or a loss of life was reported in the blaze. (KNS)
