JAMMU:- Director, Handloom Development Department, Rajesh Sharma today inaugurated two days exhibition-cum-buyer seller meet of handloom items organized by the Samba Cluster of the Handloom Development Department at the Tourist Reception Centre, Jammu.
The Samba Cluster was sanctioned by the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and is being implemented through Handloom Development Department, J&K. The Cluster has come up with innovative designs and blends of textiles.
On display are pure cotton fabric, cotton linen blend, Pure linen, Silk linen fabric made by hand on Handlooms. In addition Cluster of Billawar , Basohli and Kashmir are also displaying their products these include Pashmina Shawls and Stole, Raffal Shawls and Stoles, embroided shawls. All these products are high quality handmade products.
In his address the Director Handloom stressed upon the importance of marketing linked with customer preferences. he stressed that while it is a fact that handloom products have unique distinction and identity as long as they are not getting proper marketing opportunities the art will not get its due recognition . He called upon the weavers to harness the demand of hand woven products and try to reach customers by availing every opportunity including online selling methods. He assured the weavers that the Department would continue to support them to face the competitive environment which would help weavers to sell their products and to raise their socioeconomic conditions. He also asked the buyers to utilize fully the opportunity to interact with the weavers so as to convey to them their expectations. He requested them to make J&K Handloom a recognizable brand.
The buyers showed great interests in the products on display.
