Srinagar: Former Minister Public Works and MLA Amirakadal Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has urged His Excellency Governor N.N Vohra to take up with Government of India (GoI), the public grievances with regard to scale of ration to be distributed among ration card holders in the State under National Food Security Act (NFSA).
In a statement issued to KNS, Bukhari shared the concern shown by certain sections in some of the locations of the State about the curtailment in scale of the ration under NFSA. Late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was aware of public grievances and had envisioned a redressal mechanism to make adequate availability of ration at subsidized prices to the public. But unfortunately he could not chair the cabinet meeting that was scheduled for December 31 wherein the issue was to be discussed threadbare, Bukhari recalled.
The former Minister for Public Works observed till the problem is addressed, the CAPD must be asked to continue systematic efforts for achieving conformity in ration card database which can result in fair and judicious distribution of food grains amongst the most deserving and deprived sections of the society. The Honble Governor should take a reasonable review of the legislation and even for that matter approach government of India to address the public apprehensions in J&K.
He advocated reasonable amendments in the NFSA to address the problems that have surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir where rice is a staple diet for majority of the population.
Bukhari also called for streamlining the list of beneficiaries framed by the CAPD so that the deprived sections of people of the state who have not been covered under latest census being adopted for NFSA are included at an earliest.
He demanded that a large section of the society especially those born in 2011 and onwards and have been left outside the preview of subsidized ration be included in the new scheme. Honble Governor should also take up the matter for enhancement of coverage under NFSA with Government of India, Bukhari demanded.
The former Minister advised that till the requisite amendments are made in the NFSA, the State government should provide 35 Kilograms of ration each family upto the size of six members. Besides this quota the people are also free to avail ration from Fair Price Shops on affordable rates, Bukhari suggested. (KNS)
