SRINAGAR: All educational institutions in the Kashmir valley and those in winter zone of Jammu division reopened today after about three months of winter vacation.
The students were eager to get to school after staying home for more than 10 weeks.
“I want to see my classmates, I cannot wait to reach school,” Muntasir Farooq, a primary school student, said while waiting for his school bus in the outskirts of Srinagar.
Meteorological department has predicted isolated rain and snow from tomorrow for five days in the valley, where the winter season witnessed very less rain and snow.
Students, including minors in colourful dresses, carrying their bags and water bottles were seen marching towards their schools while others were waiting at bus stops for their school buses to pick them up this morning.
The traffic department has issued advisory to schools to make proper arrangements of transport for the students.
Schools up to 8th standard were closed from December 7 while the Higher Secondary Schools were closed from December 21st, 2015.
Everywhere one looked, eager students could be seen hurrying off to attend their first day at school.
It feels good to see students after such a long winter break, says Nuzhat Tabasum, a primary school teacher. The long break helps their minds and bodies recuperate so that they can start the new session fresh and eager, she further added.
I missed going to school. I missed my friends and my teachers. I am very happy that holidays are over, says Toiba Tasleem, a kindergarten student.
While everyone enjoys a good break, going back to school is also good as it allows us to follow a regular routine. Children have to follow a proper time table during the school going months which makes it easier for a parent to manage daily chores, says Moomina Masood, a homemaker.
Classrooms and school grounds were a welcome site with kids playing around and enjoying the unexpected sunshine. The schools in the valley opened earlier than usual following the unexpectedly warm winter which Kashmir witnessed this season. While experts and agriculturists have been alarmed over this sudden change in weather, it is good to know that at least it has brought smiles on the faces of eager school going kids.
