Teachers leave classes, turn up on road

Share

Srinagar: Hundreds of teachers on Monday appeared before the Press Enclave and started shouting slogans against the Director School Education Kashmir, Shah Faisal demanding his transfer.

Apparently anguished at the ‘forcible’ evacuation of Teacher’s Forum office which had been set up ‘illegally’ in one of the rooms of DIET Bemina, the teachers led by the forum president Abdul Qayoom assembled here in Press Enclave who alleged the incumbent director had resorted to ‘dictatorial’ policies. “Director Education Shah Faisal intentionally locked the Teachers Forum office and even stole the material there,” Wani said.

The agitated protesters tried to march towards the Directorate office, however, they were stopped by police. Police used tear-smoke shells to disperse them after they refused to heed the pleas to disperse.

At least one dozen protesters were injured in police action while more than 50 protesting teachers including Abdul Qayoom Wani were arrested by police.

“The protesting teachers disrupted traffic. We used few tear smoke shells to disperse them,” a police official told CNS.
