State Govt. can amend NFSA: Beigh

Share

Srinagar: The veteran PDP leader and parliament member from north Kashmir Muzaffar Hussain Beigh said that the legislative assembly and legislative council of the Jammu and Kashmir have the authority to amend the National Food Security Act (NFSA) against the implementation of which people are expressing anger at large.

Beigh said that there is resentment being witnessed by the general masses over the NFSA implementation in the state and that some amendments in the act should be made in a bid to address the peoples’ concerns.

Beigh said that the legislative assembly and legislative council of Jammu and Kashmir are authorised by the constitution to amend any act before its implementation in the state that has been passed by the union government.

Beigh maintained further that if the PDP forms the government in the state, the party for sure will table the act in the assembly and would seek suggestions so that it could be amended and people could heave a sigh of relief. However, Beigh was quick to add that if PDP doesn’t form the government, still the party would meet the governor of the state and would request him to address genuine concerns which the people are expressing about the act.

Beigh also stressed the government to provide immediate relief to the fire victims of Uri, saying so far no one has gone there and extended any help to them
