Wife terms execution ‘murder of justice’

Hours after former Home Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram said that that Muhammad Afzal Guru’s case was wrongly decided by the court, the family of Afzal Guru Thursdaysaid that Chidambaram should have issued such statement earlier so that execution of Guru could have been stopped.

Terming the execution of Guru as “murder of justice”, Guru’s wife, Tabassum Guru said that Chidambaram has made the statement for his vested interest.

“It is he who supported the execution of my husband at that time by acting as mute spectator. Now, there is no need to issue such kind of statements. Everybody is well aware that Afzal was not involved in any attack. Even the final judgment of the Supreme Court that sentenced him to death has also said that he was hanged to satisfy the collective conscience of the Indian society,” Tabassum told KNS.

Tabssum said that it is better for Indian politicians to “shut their mouth” as creating vote bank on the name Afzal will not be tolerated.

“Chidambaram like persons are rubbing salt on our wounds. The so-called democracy of India has been exposed by using tactics. The persons who are involved in execution of my husband are now claiming that his case was wrongly decided by the court,” she said. 

Praising Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students for raising their voices against the hanging of her husband, she said, “Even the college going children of are protesting against the decision. The protest by students was a slap on the face of India which claims to be a democratic country. Muslims are being targeted by one way or another,” she said.

Tabassum said that the seriousness of Congress party got exposed in 2013 when they acted as mute spectators after court ordered death sentence to Afzal. “It is not Chidambaram actually who raised his voice but the demonstration staged by JNU students forced him to issue such kind of statement as he is trying to prove himself innocent, which he is not,” she said.

Tabssum said, “What can we expect from India who has even failed to return mortal remains of my husband. I won’t remain silent till the return of mortal remains of Afzal are not returned to us,” she said.

Former home minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram in an interview with Economic Times has said, “I think it is possible to hold an honest opinion that the Afzal Guru case was perhaps not correctly decided by the court.”
