Lawyers reject PM’s relief package

Srinagar: J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar has rejected the Prime Minister’s Relief Package of Rs. 50.00 lacs, sanctioned for High Court Bar Library, by the Govt. vide order no. 23-PD of 2016 dated 01.02.2016 issued by Planning and Development Department of the Govt. of J&K.

In a General Body meeting, held in Lower Court Complex, at Sanatghar Bemina Srinagar held today, which lasted for about three hours, it was stated that accepting any relief package from Prime Minister of India was contrary of the Bar Association’s previous Resolutions and the stand of the Association on the issue of Kashmir. It was also stated that at a time when Dr. Mohammad Qasim, Dr. Mohammad Shafi Sharieti, Ghulam Qadir, Bhat, Tarfiq Ahmad Dar, Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, SAR Geelani and hundreds of other Kashmiri freedom fighters were languishing in jails and even Khanaya Kumar and Umar Khalid were arrested and detained for supporting the cause of people of Kashmir and lakhs of young and old people, both male and female have given their lives in the freedom struggle, accepting any package from Prime Minister of India for High court Bar Library was immoral and unethical and against the very stand of the Bar Association. It was also stated that accepting any concession, in whatever form, from Prime Minister of India or other departments of the Govt. of India would be an act of treachery which will be not only against the tenants of Islam but also against the cause, for which a dozen of Bar members have given their lives, so far.

It was also stated that it is true, that due to the floods of September, 2014, the High Court Bar Library has completely been washed away and there was a need to rebuild the said Bar library so that the junior members of the Bar Association will get benefitted, but it was agreed that the Bar Association should not accept any package from the Govt. of India for the said library and instead, it should utilize its own resources and contribute to the Bar fund, so that the said library is established once again. It was accordingly stated that when such an alternative was available with the Bar, it should reject the package in one voice. The relief package was accordingly rejected and a Committee was formed to collect contribution from the Bar members to rebuild the High Court Bar Library. On spot, Mian Abdul Qayoom, President Bar Association, Mohammad Shafi Reshi, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, primised to contribute Rs. 1.00 lac each for the Bar library and other Bar members namely Abdul Ahad Rather, Qazi Javaid Iqbal, Tariq Ahmad Jan, Shabir Ahmad Budoo, Mudasir Gulzar Vakil, Nasir Shalla and Mrs. Arizoo Maqbool promised to contribute Rs. 10,000/- each towards the Bar Library. The other members also promised  to contribute to the Bar Library so that all the lawyers get benefitted from the same.
