Consumers stage protest in Srinagar against NFSA

Srinagar: Scores of residents from Konkhan area of Dalgate Wednesday staged protest against the recently implemented National Food Security Act (NFSA).

The protesters blocked the main road and were demanding rollback of NFSA.

The protesters while talking to KNS termed the law as “anti-public”, and appealed higher ups to rollback the law soon.

They said that the protest against NFSA will continue its revocation. “The authorities are deliberately pushing the consumers to walls by implementing such kind of laws,” they said.

Meanwhile, scores of villages in central Kashmir’s Budgam district also protested against the implementation of NFSA. They also blocked the main roads of their area and closed their shops and other business establishments.

According to eye-witnesses, transport facilities also remained off on Magam, Arizal, Budgam, and Chewdara roads connecting with the Beerwah town.

Protesters from Setaharan, Drang, Shunglipora, Habber and Sugen marched towards Khag amid beating of drums.

“We have no ration for our kids below five years of age which further exacerbates their concerns. Had we been told this criteria we would have never ever filled the KYC forms either,” he added.

Traffic was suspended on various roads leading to Khag due to the protests.

People from Buzgoo Nilnaag in Chadoora and Kralpathri, Yarikah, Dabipora, Rangazabal, Raiyar in Khansahab and others also didn’t allow the CAPD department to distribute the ration under the act.

Several ration stores were padlocked by the consumers as a mark of protest against the law. (KNS)
