Commissions headless, people continue to suffer

Srinagar: Despite cases piling up and none being disposed, Backward Commission and Advisory Board for other Backward Classes are headless for years together in Jammu and Kashmir, a situation that have been irking people.

As per the guidelines for the appointment of a chairperson for Backward Commission, the state’s governor has the powers to appoint such a person in consultation with State Government. Though there is Governor rule in the state, the Governor can appoint anyone whosoever fits for the job.

The last Chairman of the Backward Commission was Justice Ali Muhammad Mir who quit the post three years ago and since then the authorities didn’t bother to appoint anyone. Same is the case with Advisory Board for other Backward Classes which is without Vice Chairman.

“There is Secretary who have been rendered powerless. Whenever we approach him, he doesn’t do anything as nothing is in his hands,” Farooq Ahmed told CNS.

The aggrieved people appealed Governor of the state to take measures to make these commissions functional. (CNS)
