ADDC Kulgam stresses for timely availability of quality fertilizers, seeds

KULGAM: In order to ensure timely availability of quality fertilizers and seeds for the farmers of the district at government approved rates, the Additional District Development Commissioner Kulgam,   today convened a meeting of concerned officers, fertilizer dealers,  farmers and horticulturists, here at Mini Secretariat.

The ADDC stressed upon the officers of horticulture and agriculture departments to work in unison and ensure adequate quantity of  fertilizers and quality seeds are available in the government approved outlets in the coming farming season.

He said that given the increasing demand for the chemical fertilizers in the month of March and April, officials of agriculture and allied departments should make concerted efforts to make available approved fertilizers at the registered outlets so that the farmers do  not face any shortage mid season. For formulation of requisite fertilizer calendar, the ADDC urged upon the scientists of Horticulture Department and SKUAST KVC Pambai to publish the fertilizer calendar well in time so that necessary fertilizers are procured from outside the state well in time.

Calling for better liaison between farming community and the allied departments, the ADDC stressed upon the officers of Horticulture and agriculture departments to reach to the farmers and horticulturists at the times of climatic emergencies like torrential rains and hailstorms especially during the month of March.

The ADDC also formulated district level enforcement squads who will conduct regular inspections of the fertilizer traders for keeping a check on  approved rates across the district throughout the season.

The ADDC said that the district administration will intensify the drive against black-marketing, profiteering, hoarding of fertilizers in coming days.

The meeting was attended by ACR, Chief Horticulture officer, Chief Agriculture officer, fertilizer traders besides representatives of farming community.
