Erring driver awarded two years imprisonment

SRINAGAR:  Mobile Magistrate Ganderbal, Muhammad Iqbal Akhoon awarded two-year rigorous imprisonment along with fine of Rs 1,000 to a driver Prushotam Singh, a resident of Akhnoor Jammu who was facing trial for the last nine years in an accident case in which one civilian had died.

Court, after hearing both the sides, convicted and sentenced the accused to rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years.

The erring driver who was carrying Amarnath Yatri’s had crushed Nayeem Ahmed Ganai a resident of Ganderbal to death in 2007.

Police had registered a case under section 279/427/304-A RPC and challan was presented in the court of law. The convicted driver was shifted to Srinagar Central Jail. (CNS)
