BB Cant Board shuts canteens at G B Pant hospital

Share

SRINAGAR: Doctors in the Valley’s only children’s hospital, G B Pant, are furious with the Badami Bagh Cantonment Board authorities for closing down the canteen and coffee shop for them.

Doctors in the hospital said that the Board authorities did not allow the canteen which was being run at the top floor of the hospital.

Not only doctors but the paramedics and attendants of the ill infants also fumed at the “unilateral” decision of the authorities.

The doctors alleged that the canteen was closed because the BB Cant authorities have allowed two canteens, one in the premises and another within the hospital.

Insiders in the hospital said the board has allotted them to some “favourite” individuals without tenders from the last five years.

Attendants alleged these two canteens sell food items at exorbitant prices to attendants.

Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Shafkat Khan told KNS that the canteen and coffee shop were started on experimental basis and were shut by the board authorities.

Meanwhile, President Medical Employees Federation, Mohammad Afzal said that the Board authorities are “unnecessarily” meddling into the affairs of the hospital.

“Board authorities are depriving doctors and paramedics of food and tea which they had at these canteens. Closing them is an arbitrary decision,” he said. (KNS)
