SRINAGAR: The officials in Rural Development officials in Chitragam Block in Wachi constituency of Shopian district are in soup for misusing funds meant for MGNREGA scheme as the accused officials have drawn funds for the same work twice.
The accused officials, including village level worker and the technical wing of the Block have drawn money twice for the construction of a lane in Panchayat Halqa Sheikhpora in Ahagam village in Shopian district.
Following complaints from the locals, the Assistant Commissioner Development, Shopian, Bashir Ahmad, appointed (as per order no. ACD/SPN/16/8017-Dated.05/01/2016/) an enquiry team headed by BDO Shopian, Bilal Ahmad.
The inquiry officer has submitted the report to the ADC and has established misuse of funds and double drawl of money for the lane
The inquiry officer told KNS that earlier Rs. 1.84 lakh has been shown spent on the lane and this year 98 thousand has been shown spent on the same lane.
The official has written (a copy of letter is with KNS) to the ADC and said that the enquiry has revealed that the said scheme MG NREGA has been put in the cupboard and not implemented as was desired from the concerned officials.
The culprits should be brought to book with immediate effect as the honour of the department is at stake.
The work is not on ground as per nomenclature and the quantity does not correlate with the amount drawn against it. It was really unfortunate to peruse that the new administrative approval for the work on the lane from at costing of 0.98 lakh and the billed amount for the work has been drawn this year and also work has been done this year and the officials are unable understand that how could a work be done twice a year. As such is a simple case of attempt to double drawl, he has written to the ADC.
The technical wing needs to explain the fact that how the bill could be framed without the work on ground, he has said.
Confirming the fraud, BDO Chitragam, Mohammad Sidiq told KNS that VLW, four officials in the Technical wing and Gram Rozgar Sahayak are accused in the misappropriation of the MGREGA funds.
MLA Wachi, Aijaz Mir told KNS that he will go through the report of the inquiry into the misuse of MGNREGA funds.
I assure that action will be taken against the officials of the Rural Development who are involved in it. No corruption and misuse of public money will be tolerated. We are for good governance and we would like that no funds for welfare schemes are misappropriated, Mir told KNS. (KNS)
