SRINAGAR : Among the other 15 Indian women honoured for innovative thinking by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj last week in national capital , there was one 25 years old computer engineer, Mehwish Mushtaq from Srinagar.
She was presented Devi Award by Swaraj in Delhi last week for becoming the youngest Kashmiri female entrepreneur. Mehvish has come up with her own app Dial Kashmir.
Besides being the youngest Kashmiri female entrepreneur, Mehvish is also Kashmirs first female app developer. The idea behind coming up with an app for her was to serve her passion towards technology and to do something to help the society.
I am a tech-savvy person. Technology has always fascinated me. The idea of making this app comes when I was doing an android course online. It is my first attempt and I am very happy that it is being appreciated to this level, Mehvish was quoted as saying by a national newspaper.
Mehwish Mushtaqs Dial Kashmir is a calls gateway to the Kashmir Valley. It consists of all the database including addresses, phone numbers and emails of various essential and commercial services. The application caters to both the local population and the tourists. The directory provided in the app is divided into two categories, essential and commercial, which are further subdivided into many categories. While, Essential category consists of fire services, gas agencies, government offices and hospitals, the commercial comprises of automobile, computers, electronics, jewellers and NGOs, besides railway timings.
Regarding the award, Mehvish said that being chosen among the 15 inspirational women in the country is an honour as well as a chance for her to learn from the other women who were making changes in the country in their own ways.
Besides, the girl had received the Femina Online Influencer Award in Mumbai last year.
The Devi Awards were given to 15 women on January 11 in New Delhi to honour their dynamism and innovative thinking. They were selected from a list of 300 for changing the face of society through their work.
