Pulwama returns to normal after 16 days

PULWAMA: Life returned to normalcy in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday which remained shut for sixteen long days after a deadlock between administration and locals over ‘Martyr’s Memorial’ issue.

All the business establishments, government and semi-government offices including coaching institutes were opened and transport ply normal on the roads, reports said adding that the police had made heavy security arrangements to avoid any further tension in the area.

According to the eyewitnesses, the day passed off peacefully and markets witnessed huge rush with people thronging to purchase essentials.

Pertinently, on the plea of youth, the traders had shut their businesses at a stretch for 16 days over a demand for establishment of a martyrs’ memorial at Shaheed Park in the town.
