Hazlewood rested for remaining ODIs against India

Melbourne—Australia have decided to rest fast bowler Josh Hazlewood for the remaining matches of the ongoing Victoria Bitter One-day International series against India.

Hazlewood was also earlier rested for the second ODI in Brisbane – a game which Australia won by seven wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Earlier, Cricket Australia has named fast-bowling all-rounder John Hastings as a replacement for Hazlewood for the third ODI and the 30-year-old will stay back with the squad having played the second game.

Australian coach Darren Lehmann cited Hazlewood’s heavy workload in the summer and stated that the team management wants the 25-year-old fresh for the New Zealand tour.

“Josh has played all six Tests this summer and has had a high workload. On that basis the decision has been made to give him a break to allow him to recharge both physically and mentally ahead of the tour of New Zealand.

“We regard it as sensible management of the player and it is an approach that we have adopted successfully in Australian cricket over a significant period of time, especially in the one-day format.”

In the year 2015, Hazlewood played 19 games for Australia across all formats and took 60 wickets at an average of 23.41.
