UDHAMPUR: In a deadly road accident 11 persons including a child were killed while 32 passengers were injured when a bus moving from Udhampur to Basant Nagae met with an accident early Friday morning, officials said.

Officials said that all the injured were rushed to Sub-District Hospital Ramnagar for treatment.

Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said that it was a tragic accident and the timely rescue operation saved some precious lives.

A police official from Ramnagar police station said that a passenger bus JK14C/7786 with a capacity of over 100 people met with an accident when the driver of the bus lost control and fell into a deep gorge. “Ten people including a girl child Radhav Devi died on spot,” he said adding that the casualties are likely to increase owing to the critical condition of some of the injured.

Officials fear Preliminary investigations carried out by the police suggest the vehicle was being driven rashly on the road.

This is the second major accident in Udhampur in less than two months involving a huge loss of life. At least 14 people were killed and 44 others injured when a bus carrying a marriage party rolled down into a deep gorge in November last year.

Twenty one people had died and at least 30 others were injured, six of them critically, in May 2015 in a similar accident.
