Finally, Mehbooba decides to slip into her father’s shoes

SRINAGAR: Ending suspense over the future of its tie-up with BJP, PDP Tuesday said the coalition will continue on the basis of ‘Agenda of Alliance’ reached between the two parties last year but gave no timeframe for formation of the new government.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no suspense. We have lost a stalwart like Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,” PDP’s chief spokesperson Mehboob Beg told Kashmir Observer.

“Once the official mourning period is over, I think the (coalition) government will carry on under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti.”

“The terms of alliance already worked out will continue to govern the relationship between the two parties in the next government,” Beg said. “No question of any other option like Congress arises.”

Beg said Mehbooba Mufti will respect the people’s mandate and carry forward the agenda of development set by the late chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

He said Mehbooba Mufti will take oath as the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister anytime after the end of the seven-day official mourning for her late father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Wednesday.

The state announced a seven-day official mourning when Sayeed passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on January 7.
