PerthFast bowlers Scott Boland and Joel Paris will be making their One-Day International debuts for Australia in the first game of the five-match series against India which gets underway in Perth on Tuesday.
The duo will form the seam bowling attack under the leadership of Josh Hazlewood in the playing XI named by Australia which also consists of all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and James Faulkner.
Inform batsman Shaun Marsh misses out on selection despite scoring 218 runs from five games at an average of 72.66 for Perth Scorchers in the ongoing Big Bash League.
David Warner and Aaron Finch will open the batting line up while Steve Smith, George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell form the middle order.
Speaking about Paris making his debut at his home ground, Smith said that the team management was looking for a left-arm seamer to make use of the conditions in Perth.
Traditionally we like to play a left-armer here who can use the breeze and move the ball so hopefully hell be able to do that for us tomorrow, Smith said at the pre-match press conference.
Hes been very impressive in the Matador Cup in the last couple of years and in the Big Bash this year.
We look forward to seeing how he goes. Its a good opportunity for him and some other young quicks around the country. So its an exciting time for Joel to make his debut at the WACA.
Stating that Bolands ability to perform at the death is an impressive aspect of his game, Smith is happy to have five seamers at his disposal in the team against India.
His (Scott Bolands) death bowling has been very impressive. I think he hits a yorker as well as anyone at the moment. Hes got a bit of pace to him so hopefully he can hurry up the Indian batters a bit.
Hes been impressive in the nets the past couple of weeks. All of our fast bowlers in this game can perform a role at the death.
It might be an instance of whos bowling well on the day and a bit of a gut feel for whos going to bowl the last couple of overs.
But theyre all aware and theyve all been working on it so its a good luxury to have five fast bowlers who can do a job at the back end.
The Australian captain also stated that it was a difficult decision to leave Shaun out of the playing XI but is confident that the 32-year-old will continue to churn out good performances to stay in contention.
Its very difficult but Shauns been exceptional. He hasnt whinged once, hes taken it on the chin and hes been great around the group.
Hes been really impressive and hopefully every time he goes back (to state cricket) he can continue to dominate, keep scoring big runs and to put his name up there.
This is the first time the two teams are playing an ODI since Australia beat India in the semi-final of the 2015 Cricket World Cup at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
