SydneyTeam India received a huge setback for their limited overs assignment of Australia as fast bowler Mohammad Shami on Saturday has been ruled out, after suffering a hamstring injury during a training session before the T20 warm-up match against Western Australia XI at Perth.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is expected to join the side on Sunday, will be flown in as replacement for the injured Shami.
Scans had revealed a Grade II injury to his left hamstring will require up to six weeks of recovery and rehabilitation.
Shami, who underwent knee surgery after the 2015 Cricket World Cup is currently coming back from a nine-month injury layoff but did not play the first warm-up match as he pulled his hamstring.
Earlier a report in Sportstar quoted a BCCI insider saying that Shami suffered the injury in training. Shami did not reach the WACA ground for the 50-over practice match against Western Australia XI.
It is considered a lucky break for Bhuvneshwar, who was dropped following a poor home series against South Africa last year.
The 25-year-old had claimed his seven wickets from five matches at an average of 49.57 and an economy rate of 7.13.
India will play five one-day Internationals and three Twenty20s against Australia.
