Frequent power cuts irk Zoonimar residents

Share

SRINAGAR: The residents of Zoonimar and its adjoining areas on Friday complained of frequent power cuts and low voltage.

A delegation from the area said they are fed power from Zoonimar receiving station. The areas which are hit by frequent power cuts include Zoonimar, Ali Jan Road, Chana Mohalla, Saida Pora and Braiwar, besides other areas which were catered by Wanganpora receiving station.

They said being non-metered, these areas are subjected to regular two night-long cuts, two four-hour evening cuts besides curtailment for twice a week.

“On the listed days of regular evening curtailment, we are supposed to receive electricity from 1 pm to 6 pm. Ironically, we do not receive power till 10 pm. The failure of the PDD to stick to its schedule is taking a heavy toll on us,” they said.

The residents claimed that the receiving station is overloaded. “The reason behind frequent power cuts is that additional areas are being fed power from the receiving station. We appeal the Chief Engineer PDD to look into the matter,” they said.

Executive Engineer, PDD, Showkat Ahmad Banday acknowledged that the Zoonimar receiving station is overloaded. “We will install additional transformers in the area to prevent frequent power cuts,” he added.
