BSF jawan arrested for cross-border smuggling

CHANDIGARH: A BSF jawan has been arrested for cross-border drug trafficking, police said on Saturday.

Anil Kumar (29), a Jawan with 52 Battalion and posted in Rajasthan, was recently arrested for helping drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling on the Indo-Pak border.

The arrest came after suspected international smugglers Gurjant Singh alias Bholu, Sandip Singh and Jatinder Singh alias Jindi — all three of who were arrested last week — named some BSF officials as being involved in the racket, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said.

The officer said the three had also named some other Border Security Force (BSF) officials as being involved in the trafficking racket.

The police are currently investigating the claims.

“We hope to arrest some more officials from the force soon,” Bhullar said.

Last week, Punjab Police arrested the three suspected smugglers and recovered Pakistani SIM card, mobiles, weapons and ammunition from them.

Another person, identified as Deepak Kumar from Ludhiana, has been arrested for his suspected role in making false passports for smugglers. (With inputs from PTI)
