SRINAGAR: A day after the death of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed at All India Institute of Medical Science New Delhi, people from different walks of life including political and separatist leaders continue to condole his demise.
New Agency Current News Service received hundreds of emails and phone calls from people expressing shock and deep sorrow over the death of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
In a condolence message the Hurriyat G leader Aagha Syed Hasan has conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. He said that Death is an ultimate reality and it keeps no calendar. He prayed to Almighty to bestow peace on the departed soul and give courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
Chief Executive Officer Dargah Shardah Sharif Abdul Qayoom Dar termed Mufti Sayeed as a true statesman and added that his death has created a vacuum in the political horizon of the State as well as the country which is impossible to be filled.
Peoples Democratic Party from Rajouri Tazeem Ahmed Dar also expressed deep shock and sorrow over the sad demise of the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
The University of Kashmir on Friday mourned the demise of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who was also the Universitys Pro-Chancellor.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi chaired a condolence meeting this afternoon which was attended by teaching and non-teaching staff of the University.
Prof Andrabi paid rich tributes to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and recalled his decisions, concerns, and efforts for the growth and development of J&K in general, and the University of Kashmir in particular.
Mufti Sahab really wanted the states education sector to prosper and flourish. He would float many ideas on expansion of higher education in J&K and see to it that these are implemented in a time-bound manner, Prof Andrabi said, and expressed his sympathies with the bereaved family members, especially Ms Mehbooba Mufti.
He said: Mufti Sahibs positive contribution for the growth and development of this University will always be remembered and recalled.
KUs in-charge Registrar, Dr M S Sumbli, said Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was genuinely concerned about the development of higher education sector in general and Kashmir University in particular. He would be very pro-active to see that higher education reaches the doorsteps of aspirants in remote and far-flung areas, he said, and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
President of Kashmir University Teachers Association, Dr M Hussain, said: Mufti Sahib was a supporter of the cause of students and teachers and made tireless efforts to see J&Ks education sector grow and prosper. He said the teaching fraternity was grieved at the demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family.
Joint Registrar, Mr Altaf Ahmad, also spoke on the occasion and recalled Mufti Mohammad Sayeeds concern for J&Ks higher education sector.
President Kashmir University Ministerial Staff Association, Rashid-ud-Din, and Prof M Y Ganai, Head of History Department, also spoke on the occasion and paid rich tributes to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. A Fateha was also offered on the occasion for the departed soul.
Meanwhile, University has staff also condoled the demise of noted Kashmiri poet and writer, Prof Abdul Rashid Nazki and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, People from all walks of life continued to pour in at the Fairview residence today to offer condolences on the demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
A government handout on Friday said that people from all walks of life, including common masses, politicians and VIPs, thronged the Srinagar residence of the late leader to call on the bereaved family members.
“Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Parliamentarians, Legislators, Chairman, State Accountability Commission and Judges of the J&K High Court were among those who came to offer their condolences,” said the handout.
Sayeed passed away in New Delhi yesterday morning, becoming the third Chief Minister to die in office after Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and G. M. Sadiq.
The congregational prayers (Fateha) of the leader will be offered at Dara Shikov Bagh, Bijbehara, where he is buried, at 11.00 am on January 10. A condolence meeting has also been scheduled at 2.00 pm at Gupkar residence the same day.
