Geelani barred from Friday prayers, again

Octogenarian Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani, was once again barred from all important congregational Friday prayers today.

In a statement issued by All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) Geelani continued to remain under the house detention today on 8th January and was “once again forcibly stopped from the Friday congregational prayers”.

Terming the government policies as “cruel and unjustified”, Hurriyat Conference Akbar condemned it in strong words.

“The PDP-BJP coalition government is exactly following the policies of Omer Abdullah with regard the Geelani Sahab and the government has failed to produce any legal and constitutional justification for this imprisonment,” the spokesperson of the amalgam said.

“Geelani Sahab completed 265 days under house imprisonment during the 9 months rule of PDP led government in Jammu & Kashmir. It is the clear violation of the state constitution and the grave human rights violation which should be condemned at each level,” the spokesperson added.

Hurriyat Conference once again appealed Amnesty International and International Red Cross Committee to take serious notice of the “illegal detention of Geelani and use their influence in his release”.
