PDP Min blames NC for power mess

SRINAGAR: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Abdul Haq Khan on Saturday blamed previous National Conference lead government for the on-going power mess in the state.

Speaking during his tour of Kokernag Constituency in Islamabad district, minister said the transmission lines in the state have no capacity to bear the required load of the electricity.

He said the state needs 1700 MW of electricity during winters but the transmission lines can only half of the requirement. “Even if we buy more electricity or use gas turbine, that will not solve our problem as we can’t distribute the electricity to the people owing to transmission issues,” he said.

Blaming Omar Abdul lead previous government for destroying the power system of the state, Abdul Haq said the previous government has not taken care of the transmission system. He said Omar lead government has not upgraded the transmission system.

“There is dire need to upgrade the transmission lines, receiving stations, sub stations and grid stations. We are working on it,” he said adding that this year people may face problems but till next winter government will update and upgrade the transmission system of the state.
