SRINAGAR: A moderate intensity earthquake hit Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

The earthquake jolted the Kashmir Valley. People ran out of their offices and houses. No report of any casualty or damage to property has come so far from anywhere in the state, an official of the provincial administration said.

“The magnitude of the tremor was 5.8 on the Richter scale with epicentre in the Hindu Khush mountain range of Afghanistan. Depth of the shock was 170 km inside the Earth,” Sonam Lotus, director of the local Met department said.
