Bukhari conducts city tour, takes stock of Dev works

SRINAGAR: Minister for Public Works, Floriculture and Gardens & Parks, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today made an on spot inspection of Pratap Park, Zero bridge and its adjacent Park in Rajbagh. The minister reviewed augmentation works in both public parks and protection of nearby Bund in Rajbagh being completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.50 crore.

Bukhari impressed upon executing agencies to complete these works before the next tourist season and also to plant perennial plants with exquisite colours which will have less annual maintenance besides adding 20 per cent flora as different annuals. He also instructed for proper maintenance to be ensured so that the Pratap Park emerges as land mark of Srinagar city.

While inspecting the tourist amenities works taken up by JKPCC at Zero Bridge, the Minister instructed Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to transfer the land adjacent to the bridge to horticulture department for further landscaping and development of the site.

The minister also instructed Managing Director JKPCC to develop a multi level parking facility near the site and to ensure protection works of the graveyard at the back end.

While inspecting the development of Zero bridge Park presently being augmented the Minister stressed on the officers to put in all efforts to make it more attractive, considering tourist flow in the area.

The Minister further instructed executing department to make the Bund along river Jhelum at Zero bridge stronger and attractive. He also instructed that the both sides of the river Jhelum in the vicinity be beautified as already ordered by the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during his last tour to the area.  

Reviewing repairs and renovation work carried on zero bridge, the Minister ordered for an early completion of works by the executing agency.

Director Floriculture, M.D JKPCC and other senior officers of district administration accompanied the Minister.

Meanwhile, Bukhari held a video conference with deputy commissioners of the valley and took stock of the status of implementation of Chief Minister’s directions, winter preparedness, stock position, power supply and infrastructure development.

He was informed that 34 snow clearance machines are on stand-by mode in Srinagar city for clearing the snow from roads. A total of 111 snow clearance machines have been deployed for the entire valley with a provision of bringing 14 more such machines for ensuring the opening of roads within a minimum possible time. 

He asked the officials to undertake snow clearance during night hours so that people wake up to clear roads.

While reviewing the stock position in the valley the Minister was informed that there is a food stock of 36 days and LPG stock of 15 days available in the valley. 

He directed the CAPD officials to maintain the minimum stock to avoid any shortage. The meeting was informed that the work on the drainage project at Zewan has been started and the same would be completed within the winter season.

Regarding power situation the Minister was informed that curtailment to industry to the tune of 40 MW and drive against power theft has started to improve the situation at peak hours. The departmental squad has found 1668 violators and 8 FIRs have been lodged against them.

He also reviewed the preparations for the coming Republic Day and Dastageer Saheb Urs (RA). He ordered the DC Ganderbal to provide the required earth filling to Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) for preparing a new cell at Achan Dumping site.

While reviewing the progress on various directions passed on by Chief Minister to DCs, the minister asked the administration to work vigorously to implement all the people friendly decisions taken in various district development board meetings and during the visits of the Chief Minister to the various districts.
