Pulwama: Panic gripped in the dead of the night in Chhatpora area of South Kashmirs Pulwama district after Government Forces raided all but twenty residential houses and bundled six persons including two brothers into police vehicles.
Locals alleged that government armed men unleashed terror in the area and ransacked houses. It was like hell. The armed men created panic in the area, barged into dozens of houses when people were in slumber, Chhatpora locals said.
They said Police were looking for youth who participated in the protests against the killing of a LeT militant Omais Ahmed. Most of the youth were not present in their houses, so they bundled innocent people into police vehicles and lodged them at unknown places, they said.
We dont know where they have kept half a dozen people. Among the seven arrested people two are brothers and one is working as a watchman, they said.
The locals identified the arrested persons as Mukhtar Ahmed Wani son of Noor Muhammad, Ashiq Hussain Sheikh son of Abdul Rashid, Ghulam Hassan Ganaie son of Abdul Aziz, Adil Ahmed Ganaie son of Bashir Ahmed and two brothers Omar and Ashiq sons of Nazir Ahmed. Reports said that police have also arrested a Peoples Democratic Party ardent activist Muzaffar Ahmed from the same locality.
Reports said that government forces also resorted to nocturnal raids in Dangarpora and Kakapora area of the district. Witnesses said that two youth were picked up from Dangarpora area while 9 persons were arrested in Kakapora.
A police official while confirming the arrests said that they have identified all the stone-pelters after monitoring their videos. We havent arrested any innocent persons. All the arrested people are known stone-pelters responsible for disruption of law and order in the town. There are number of stone-pelters who are evading arrests and police will nab them in coming days, he said.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in the district for the third consecutive day. The call for shutdown was given by a group of youth who against the wishes of the police and civil administration intend to erect a martyrs memorial in the Shaheed Park.
All the shops and business establishment remained shut in the district and transport was off the roads.
