Training of FCC Counsellors concludes at IMPA

Srinagar: Two days training course on women empowerment organized by J&K Institute of Management and Public Administration (IMPA) Srinagar, concluded here today. Around 40 women Counsellors from Family Counselling Centres (FCCs) sponsored by J&K State Social Welfare Board (JKSSWB) participated in the training program. The Family Counselling Centres have been setup to settle matrimonial cases and to provide counselling, referral and rehabilitation services to women who are in danger within the family or society at large, including those affected by disputes, marital discords or maladjustments. The counselling is provided free of cost. There are over 30 FCCs in the State. 

The objective of the training program was to familiarize these Counsellors with the concept of women empowerment and Panchayati Raj System. The course coordinator Dr. Bilal A. Bhat, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences, IMPA enlightened the participants about conceptual background of women empowerment and Panchayati Raj System and theoretical framework on women empowerment. He also explained about feminism, Rights of Women, Gender Budgeting, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Self Help Groups, Role of NGOs and Panchayat Raj Institutions in Women’s Upliftment, as well as about schemes and policies for weaker sections, especially women. Other resource persons included Dr Shazia Manzoor, Asst. Professor, Dept of Social Work, University of Kashmir, Dr Jahan Ara Jabeen, Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences, IMPA and Suhail-ul-Islam, KAS, Block Development Officer, Pulwama.  The session on Women Empowerment through Self Help Groups by Dr Shazia Manzoor was appreciated by the participants. Suhail-ul-Islam threw light on Role of Panchayats in the empowerment of women and the problems and challenges being faced by women in the field.  The valedictory session was chaired by Executive Director & Secretary, J&K State Social Welfare Board Aamir Ali, who spoke about various measures taken by Government and especially Social Welfare Board for empowerment of women. He also emphasized on creating awareness amongst general public about various schemes and programs meant for the empowerment of women in J&K. Later, Secretary, State Social Welfare Board and the Course Coordinator distributed participation certificates and group photographs, amongst the trainees.
