SRINAGAR: Minister for Public Works, Floriculture and Gardens & Parks Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today visited the fire victims of Azad Basti Natipora whose houses were gutted in a devastating fire incident yesterday.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone, and other officers of Public Works department, Bukhari announced Rs 2.05 lakh from his own pocket for families affected by the incident.
While interacting with the affected Bukhari assured them of all possible assistance. He also asked them to keep minimal fire gap while constructing houses for their own safety besides taking other safety measures to prevent such incidents.
The Minister asked the concerned to help the affected families shift to a nearby shelter till they reconstruct their gutted houses. Bukhari said he is deeply pained by the incident as a number of poor families have gone homeless.
He assured fire victims of adequate relief as per norms, besides other things of daily use.
Bukhari said that the government has already instructed the district administration to provide necessary help to the fire victims at the earliest as an interim measure.
The administration has also been directed to prepare a comprehensive report about the damages/losses in the incident, so that the fire victims could be adequately compensated, he added.
He asked the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to disburse ex-gratia relief of Rs. 101000 per gutted structure within a week besides utensils and blankets already provided by the district administration.
The Public Works Minister also directed the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to issue timber among the said families for reconstruction of their houses. The Deputy Commissioner was also directed to provide 50 Kilograms of rice per affected family out of Red Cross.
On the occasion, Bukhari appreciated the role of fire and emergency services, police and local youth who helped save life and property.
Besides other officers Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Nazir Ahmad Baba also accompanied the Minister.
