Preachers thrashed for organizing Milad procession

Srinagar: A couple of youth allegedly thrashed two religious preachers and their followers for organizing a Milad procession in Pamposh Colony Noor Bagh  area of Srinagar city.

The victims staged a protest in Press Enclave here alleging that they were beaten up and their Milad procession was stoned after they asked some cricket playing youth to vacate the cricket ground. “These youth did not allow us to enter into the stadium and instead attacked us with cricket bats and stones. It was a ‘collective’ decision of the community to organize a milad procession in the stadium,” Molvi Nazir Ahmed told CNS adding that another religious preacher Muhammad Aarif Sheikh received couple of stitches in the head.  “We have already registered a case against the assailants and are hopeful that police will book them without any delay,” they said.

A police official from Noorbagh police station said that the statements of witnesses have already been recorded and if proved accused will be arrested. (CNS)
