DGP reviews arrangements for New Year celebrations

JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar appealed to people of the State to celebrate New Year safely and advised them to desist from any illegal activity during celebrations.  

Mr. Rajendra stated this while chairing a meeting of senior police officers to discuss measures to be taken during New Year celebrations in the State, at Police Headquarters, here today.

During the meeting various issues were discussed threadbare including steps required to be taken to make the celebrations smooth and secure. It was decided that additional deployment would be made at various places, where such celebrations shall be held. 

In the meeting, Mr. Rajendra said it should be ensured that no illegal activity is undertaken during celebrations that may pose risk to human lives. He said intelligence grid has also been activated to keep a vigil on the celebrations and to keep a check on immoral and illegal activities.

The DGP asked the Thana and Traffic Police to deploy squads at different places, especially in cities and big towns to curb traffic violations including drunken driving etc. He stressed for strict action against persons driving under influence of alcohol. He said bikers without crash helmets, rash driving and wrong parking should be strictly curbed and errant drivers should be booked under law.

Mr. Rajendra said that law and order during celebrations would be ensured and all security measures would be adopted to make the celebrations safe and secure. He appealed to the people to take all preventive measures for their safety during celebrations.

Among others, the meeting was attended by IGP (Jammu Zone), Mr. Danish Rana, IGP Security, Mr. Jagjit Kumar and IGP Traffic, Mr. Vjiplav Kumar, DIG, Jammu, Mr. Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, SSP Jammu, Mr. Uttam Chand and other police officers.
