Fire in old secretariat, Srinagar

SRINAGAR: A mysterious fire broke out in one of the office blocks of the old Secretariat Srinagar at late Sunday night which abruptly engulfed a large part of it , official sources said. They said the blaze emerged at around 9.00 pm from the room housing the Director Health Services Kashmir in the top floor of the heritage building. Sources told Kashmir Observer that the security personnel on duty raised an alarm following which the fire service station was called and they pressed 12 fire tenders in service to douse the fire adding that it took firemen half an over to control the blaze. “There was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the fire incident though the blaze damaged only attick portion of the office ,” they said. DG Fire & Emergency Services J&K, R.S Sodi told the Kashmir Observer that 12 fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire. “Only the ceiling portion of the top floor housing DHSK office was damaged and the records of offices in the buildings were safe,” DG said . Sources said the timely action by firemen prevented the blaze from spreading to the other areas of the secretariat avoiding major mishap. Meanwhile, police have registered a case and started investigations to ascertain the cause of fire .
