Azad’s guard shoots self

NEW DELHI: An ITBP personnel posted outside Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad’s residence suffered a bullet injury when his gun accidentally went off here this evening.

Constable Zakir Hussain received a bullet injury in his foot while tightening the sling of his semi-automatic weapon, which fell down and went off accidentally, official sources said.

Azad, who is Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, is given Z + security cover with Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) commandos and Special Service Guard (SSG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police guarding him and his residence in South Avenue of New Delhi.

The ITBP constable was rushed to the Trauma Centre of Safdarjung hospital.
