Eid-e-Milad celebrated with fervour and gaiety

Srinagar: Around 2.5 lakh worshippers thronged Asar-i –sharif Hazratbal locally known as Dargah Sharif and Asar-i-sharif Jenabsahab, Soura to get a glimpse of the holy relics of the Prophet Muhammad (SA). 

Thousands of people had reached the shrine Wednesday evening to participate in the night long prayers at Hazratbal Srinagar and to have a first glimpse of Holy relic that was displayed after Fajr (pre-dawn) prayers. Devotees gathered at the shrine to offer congregational afternoon prayers and to have glimpse of holy relic. The shrine was pleasantly decorated.

The devotees got emotional and raised their hands for prayers reciting Quranic verses and Duroods while having the glimpse of holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) after Zuhr congregational prayers.

Special arrangements were put in place by Traffic Police for smooth movement of people to and from the shrine. Besides private and public transport, State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) had made arrangements for ferrying devotees. Divisional administration had made arrangements of security and other necessary facilities.

Various religious, social, business and political organizations had erected banners on roads and shops outside Hazratbal shrine, greeting people on the occasion while local traders decorated the markets and announced discount on various items. The devotees, who had gone for night long stay and those who reached the shrine at afternoon prayers expressed satisfaction over the  arrangements made by Waqaf Board. Vice-Chairman Waqf Board told CNS that they had made special arrangements for the devotees to ensure smooth conduct of congregational prayers.

Meanwhile, special congregational prayers were also organized at other revered shrines of Kashmir like Jenab Sahab Soura, Asar-e-Sharif Shahri Kalashpora, Khanqah-e-Maula, Ziarat Hazrat Dastgeer Sahab (RA), Syed Yaqoob Sahab (RA) Sonwar, Khawaja Naqshband Sahab (RA) and Ziarat Makhdoom Sahib (RA). Similar prayers were also held at Masjids and shrines in Islamabad mainly at Jamia Masjid Reshi Sahab, Khiram Sirhama, Kaba Marg, Dooru and Seer Hamdan.

In Kargil, thousands of people celebrated Eid Milad-u-Nabi (SAW) in the town. While speaking in Jamia Masjid Hanfia Kargil, the Imam stressed for unity among Muslims. He said that the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the only way to lead a better life.

 “It is the most beautiful and happening day as our beloved Prophet (PBUH) was born on this day,” said Moulana Riyaz Ahmad. “This is the real Eid for Muslims as Allah gifted the humanity with one of the most important persons.”

Sajah Begum, 102, of Tral said that she has not missed any Shab-i-Milad for the last 60 years. “I have been coming to Dargah Sharif, Hazratbal on every Milad to have a glimpse of the holy relics,” she said. “It’s the love of my Allah and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that I come here on every shab to seek blessings.”

Some 1.5 lakh devotees have thronged Asar-i- Sharif Dargah to pay obeisance. The devotees asked for forgiveness in night long prayers under chilly conditions of 4.4 degree Celsius temperature. Nearly 68000 children have also made visit to Dargah Sharif on this holy occasion. 

“Everything is beautiful here. I cannot express the feelings that how I am feeling inside,” said Rubeena Mehraj, a devotee from Hawal. “This day is remarkable for every Muslim and we all should follow the right path which has been laid by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).” 

Around 9000 meters lighting wire has been used to beautify the Hazratbal Shrine and its outskirts. The hot water supply has been maintained in all washrooms with kehwa and noon-chai for the devotees.

For the toy shop owner Abdul Hameed Khan, the day has been a productive one. “I earn nearly 6 to 8 thousand rupees per day on Milad days,” he said. “Since there is a huge rush of kids on this occasion, they love to buy different kinds of toys. So the Milad days bring prosperity to us.”
