Yemen strikes Saudi Aramco oil facility

SANAA: A ballistic missile fired by Yemeni forces in retaliation has hit facilities belonging to Saudi Arabia’s state oil giant Aramco in the country’s southwest, Yemen’s television reported on Tuesday.

Army troops, backed by allied Popular Committees, fired a Qaher 1 missile at the company in the Saudi border province of Jizan early Tuesday, the al-Masirah news channel reported.

The television said the projectile was fired in response to stepped-up Saudi attacks on different locations across Yemen despite a ceasefire. Yemeni forces targeted the Jizan Regional Airport with a similar missile attack on Monday.

On Monday, militants loyal to fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi were reported to have moved to the province surrounding Yemen’s capital, Sana’a.

Media reports said Hadi’s forces had taken control of two mountains in the Nihm district which is about 60 km northeast of the capital.

The push came as Hadi’s foreign minister Abdel Malek al-Mekhlafi said they had agreed to extend a seven-day UN-sponsored truce which they largely violated as it went into effect last week.

Houthi fighters have accused Hadi forces of taking advantage of the truce to make a number of gains. Last week, Hadi loyalists overran two towns, including the provincial capital of the Jawf  province, as Houthi representatives sat for negotiations in Switzerland.
