SOG Picks up Shopian Sarpanch

Srinagar: Seven persons including a Sarpanch have been picked up by army and Special Operation Group of Police (SOG) in several parts of Shopian in south Kashmir from last couple of days.

Official sources told Srinagar based news gathering agency GNS that seven persons including a village head were detained by army’s 62 RR and SOG in separate raids in the district.

They identified the detained persons as Sarpanch Abdul Rahim Sheikh S/O Abdul Ahad Sheikh of Babapora, Mohammad Yousuf Dar S/O Abdul Ahad of Sangden, Haseeb Parray S/O Manzoor Ahmad of Handeo. The trio was picked up by the SOG Imam Sahab for questioning.

While as other four persons whose whereabouts where not known on the day of their arrest by army’s 62 RR, they said, adding that later the concerned police station came to know the local army unit picked the persons.

The four other persons including two brothers picked up by army has been identified as Khursheed Thoker S/O Ghulam Mohammad of Barbugh, Zainapora, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat S/O Ali Mohammad, Parvez Zargar and his brother Reyaz Zargar sons of Mohammad Shaban.

“All the persons are being questioned in recent youths killing case and in several other militancy related cases in recent past in the district”, they said.

Pertinently, On December 14, a bullet-riddled body of a 23-year-old youth of Rasik Ahmad Khan son of Muhammad Yusuf Khan, a resident of village Wasawhalan, Imamsahib Shopian was found tied to a pole in Tarkawangam village of the district. Rasik was running a photocopy shop in Imamsahib Shopian.
