250 KV electric transformer gutted in Kupwara village

Srinagar, Dec 21 (GNS: A 250 KV electricity transformer Monday gutted in a village at north-Kashmir’s Kupwara district causing damage to the adjacent households.

Reports reaching GNS here said that the transformer caught fire due to short circuit during the intervening night of December 20/21 at around 2:00 am shattering window panes and damaging the nearby property at Bunpora Mohalla of Muqami-e-Shahwali.

“Later, the transformer exploded with a huge bang creating panic in the whole area”.

Soon after the incident, the locals contacted the local fire and emergency service centres at Drugmulla and at district headquarters Kupwara, but according to the locals both centres didn’t turn up despite repeated calls.

Meanwhile the people have demanded the Power development department (PDD) to relocate the transformer from the established site owing to its close proximity to households in the area.
